Feature films · Step 1 of 9
Start a film project
Create a script project, or turn a story you've already written into one.
A film project is where you write a screenplay scene by scene, then plan the shoot: storyboards, shot lists and blocking. Every account also has a free sample film, The Inheritance, with ten written scenes you can explore and continue.
Create a project
- On Your projects, click New project.
- Choose Write a script.
- Enter a Title (the only required field).
- Pick a Format: Feature, Short film, TV pilot, Web series or Stage play. It starts on Short film, so change it if you're writing a feature.
- Add a Genre and Tone if you know them, and a Logline (optional).
- Click Create project.
Or import a story
Already have a story, a novel excerpt or a treatment? In the same window, click ↑ Import story. Paste up to 40,000 characters or add a PDF (up to 16 MB), choose a format or Let AI decide, and pick the AI provider. Leave the title blank and the AI suggests one. Then click Convert to project. The AI turns it into a project with scenes. Long stories take 30–60 seconds and use credits.
Find your way around
- At the top: the Style chip (pick a director's eye or describe your own; it shapes the storyboards) and the Frame for storyboard panels (16:9 by default, also 2.39:1, 1.85:1, 4:3, 9:16 and 1:1).
- In the middle: your Scenes. Drag to reorder, tick scenes to move, duplicate or delete them, and use Add scene to add one at the end.
- On the right: World Bible, Story canvas, Timeline, Insights and Team, then Logline & treatment, View / Add poster and Export PDF.
To rename, duplicate or delete a project, use its ⋯ menu on Your projects: Rename, Duplicate or Delete project, which can’t be undone.
The free Starter plan has 2 projects. The sample film doesn't count toward them.
